newbie here do i need anything else?

i dont have a leopard gecko yet but i am going to get one when the convention comes to town, just planning ahead. Ive been looking at a lot of differnt sites and i want to see if i got everything down.
here is what i am going to get for my gecko. i am going to house one in a square tank thats about 2 feet by 2 feet and maybe 8 inches high.
i am going to use cage carpet for the bottom, with probably some slate for him to climb closer to the daylight blue bulb and a t-rex cobra heat mat with a rheostat so i can lower it from their preset 100 degrees. should the heatmat be on the same side as the heat bulb? i'll also have a log in there and a hi-humidity cave. would i need anything else. thanks-john

Well I would get a little dish to keep mealies in and also a cap with calcium powder so they can lick it if they want it.I am sure you forgot to list it but a water bowl. One more thing is that I have been told that the carpet could snag there nails, especially if a baby so I use paper towel.I have a new baby and he just loves to play and hide in a toilet paper tube.
Yes keep all the heat to one side.Good luck and enjoy!!!!
