Over eating

StepyGeckoGirl Jun 06, 2005 11:50 AM

I gave my baby (who I think is a 2-4 months old I still have to call the pet shop and ask) 4 mealworms last night and he ate them all this was at 6 so at 4 in the morning when I awoke he was at his dish(looking for food) so I gave him 5 more and he ate em up so about an hour later I gave him 6 more dipped in calcium(I have a bottle cap with calcium in the cage as well) and he at all but 1 of them within' roughly 45 miuntes he would come out from his rock cave and eat a few go back in, come out and eat a few and I was wondering if this is bad? at first he wasn't really eating but now he has a heck of an appetite. Since he's eating this much should I give him as much as he'll eat. Also since he's young I've been feeding him every day. And suggestions?

Most geckos will stop eating hwne they are full. Give him as much as he will eat in a period of like 30min. Also, you can keep a bowl of meallies in the cage at all times, infact while he's young and so enthusiastic about eating you might want to take advantage of that and switch him to mealworms. After while crickets will get awfully old and annoying to feed. If you notice him not acting full at all after he's eaten alot then your going to have to watch and limit his intake.

Oh yea, by the picture you sent me I'd say your gecko is about 1 1/2-2 months old.

Well as long as you have the meallies and he likes them you can just keep them in a bowl so he can eat whenever he wants.
