Hi all,
I have never posted about a non-feeding bp before but here I am! I have an unknown age (4' male) rescue bp that has been in my care for about 2 years. He's always been healthy, never been a picky eater, never fasted during winter, and has eaten either F/T adult mice or rats without a fuss. Good weight, shedding well, drinking, alert and acting normally. He's in a Vision cage with a radiant heat panel, cool side about 78, warm side about 94 F, bark hides, with a humidity box that he uses a lot. Humidity level varies from 30% to about 70%. Aspen chip bedding. I have only one local source for F/T feeders which he used to take readily until about 4 months ago. Then I noticed the size of the feeders has changed quite a bit so I called to see if the shop changed their source. They said no, but my bp has refused everything offered to him since about that time. He is normally fed in a separate cat kennel at night. He would either take it from my hand or go after it by himself if left. Just a really settled snake. Now I'm getting concerned. Can a feeder be too small if he's gotten used to large rats? I know the feeders can smell different if the breeder changed bedding or diet too. I would change my source, but I am in SE Alaska and have not ordered frozen feeders directly before. Everything takes longer to get here and costs more. But, I am ready to change feeder sources hoping that might be the problem. What am I missing? Any suggestions? Thanks!
