Finding Hognose

Naja-naja Jun 06, 2005 02:44 PM

I need help finding some eastern hognose in Va. I keep hearing of people finding them but no luck so far. I have been trying to find some easterns for 4 yrs now and no luck can any one help??????
I have 1.1 westerns and know what they need and what to look for when looking for them in the wild but not as much for easterns.

Thanks Brandon

WC Easterns do not generally make good pets. I would suggest locating a reputable breeder of Easterns; Captive Bred snakes are much easier to switch over to mice, and thus not affect the wild toad and frog population.

Start cruising some known roads just before sundown.

I live in Gloucester Co. Va and know of some dirt roads but I am not sure I will find any thing.

Most of what I have heard and have seen of Eastern Hogs
leads me to think that they are found more commonly near
water systems such as rivers and creeks. The one I
just caught was probably 50 yards from a creekline.

Where I go is near a lake and also have little ponds all over the place? but no luck

They like it hot and sandy. Your best bet is driving nice sandy dirt roads in remote areas in the heat of the day.
