Cuban or Rhino?

bunke10 Jun 06, 2005 03:42 PM

Hi! I am new to this forum! I have been wanting to get either a cuban or a rhino igg for a long time...I have worked with both in the past at zoos. I was wondering which would make a better pet, where I can get a captive bred specimen, and how do I find out if it is legal to keep them in my area? Also If there are any good care sheets out there I haven't been able to find them so if you know of any please let me know!Any help would be greatly apperciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Determining which species would make a better pet for you is a personal choice. You will get differing opinions on that here. My personal favorite is the Rhinos but lots of folks say that Cubans make better pets. Watch the classifieds for animals offered for sale. You will only find captive bred animals. David Blair of Critter Corners usually has some available year round. Check your local ordinances and state laws for legality.

A good Green Iguana care sheet will give you most of the information that you need. Cyclura are more terrestrial so they don't require a tall enclosure, just lots of floor space. They also seem to enjoy higher basking temps than their Green cousins. Diet is the same.

If you haven't already done so, please check out www.Cyclura.com for a wealth of Cyclura info. Good luck with your decision!

Ive owned both and they are both awsome creatures. It really depends on what you are going to do with your iguanas. The rhinos seems to get bigger and are definatly extrodinary in a physical aspect. The Cubans on the other hand look great in my opion but they seem to have one of the best personalitys as a whole group. Most cuban owners will tell you that there pet is either dog tame, non flighty, or likes atention from humans. I like the cubans over the green iguanas cause A. they arnt tree dependent, B. they arnt as flighty C. they have a better skin texture. Every thing I have said is my opion and nothign eles so good luck finding a cyclura, just keep checking the clasifieds they show up almost every week.
