Lyre taking unscented f/t...

lateralis Jun 06, 2005 04:04 PM

What I thought would be a long, drawn out process has in fact turned out to be quick and easy. After one scented meal, my WC lyre has started to take f/t on his/her own. What a gas, I was hoping the little guy would take them without too much fuss and I was rewarded. Now to find out the sex and try to find a suitable mate...This could be an interesting project!

That's great, and was rather quick! I have a lot of faith in those Trimorphs, although some can be harder to switch over. This will make keeping it much more enjoyable. Mine always seem to be ready for a meal, but I've learned restraint in feeding to keep them on their natural lean side. It may be the difference between a rodent diet vs the usual lizards, but they seem to do better long term this way. Now go find him/her a mate!

LOL, thanks, yes I was rather surprised at how quickly this happened, though it only takes them after we have all gone to bed it looks interested for moment or two when presented then ignores it, I come in the room in the morning and its gone, I'll take what I can get, though I would like to get a look at those rear pins.
I seem to remember something about females being larger than males in this sp. are your animals sexed? I would like to see some tail shots of them if you know what they are, Im leaning towards a male on this little guy, but havent had the opportunity to see many so I honestly dont know. I dont want to try and pop it or probe it (wouldnt know what the depth should be anyways)so Im sort of stuck until I can find more or reach people who have them. It sure is unusual looking, I havent seen another that resembles it yet.

I say pop it. It's not the most reliable way of sexing, but if you don't want to, or know how to probe, this is the safe way to go. Put your thumb an inch below the anal, and slide up, when your thumb is getting closer to the anal, sort of bend it open, if it's male, it will "pop".

Try it a couple times unless it pops on the first try.
