The Finschi Monitors are here!!!!! Pics

built4spd13 Jul 13, 2003 02:05 PM

They came in yesterday!!! They are finally here!!!!! I can breath now, well maybe not!!!! My poor heart!!!!
Ok that's enough of that!
These guys are the most amazing monitors I've ever seen and now touched. They're very skitish and spazzy but very well tempered for a WC monitor. I know it looks weird but I had to use towels when handling these two because they have some wicked claws. My gloves only go to my wrist!!! There is not a lot I can really say because I'm still in shock so please forgive me!
Please enjoy the pics.

They are awsome monitors, It looks like theres a tick on the female in the first pic, its on its neck if you havent already seen it.

built4spd13 Jul 13, 2003 02:34 PM

That is actually a small scab. No tick have been located on them yet. I checked them over when first got to my house then I've checked them twice after that. I have seen one as if yet.
But I'll make one more check before they go into their enclosure.

Where are they from?
Full name?

These are v. finschi, or Finsch Monitors. They are from Indo. They were caught by Danny Gorman a couple weeks ago. They are an adult pair. If Christine is successful in breeding them, she could be the first world wide to do so. They are in the indicus complex for now but that could change soon.

This might sound like a stupid question, however, I am not totally educated overall on monitors. You said that V. Finshi are in the indicus complex...what exactly is a complex, a group of similar species? Thanks for any responses.

a group of animals within a species or a group of subspecies that comprise a complex.

some complexes are the gouldi complex (rubidus, gouldi, v. p. horni, v. p. panoptes, v. flavirifus),

the indicus complex is currently comprised of almost too many to count, some of them are (indicus, jobiensis, doreanus, d. finschi, melinus)

then there are shorter ones, niloticus (ornatus, niloticus)
