Question regarding probe location

JDalbo Jun 06, 2005 08:41 PM

When housing neonates in tubs, is it better to affix the probe in the tub or directly to the heat tape? I am currently using 11" heat tape across the back side with the probe attached to part of the perch. However, everytime I want to remove the perch with the chondro to clean, it's a real hassle to unhook the probe from the perch. Also, they can be quite nippy as I'm trying to unhook the probe. Does anyone have any pictures of their probe placement or comments on where I can place it and still be able to remove the perch? Would taping it directly to the heat tape solve this problem?

I would attach it to something sturdy like clothes hanger wire and make a separate hole in the side of the tub. As for placement, I would put it at the level or the same distance from the heat source that your animal most commonly is at in the cage. You could also put it in the cent and set your thermostat so it heats the cage from one end of your temperature rang to the other. So say the thermostat reads 75, then closest to the heat would be 80, and farthest would be 70.
