question on lighting

FLAohHerper Jun 06, 2005 08:45 PM

im thinking of moving my 2 burms and ball from glass tanks to tubs. The thing is that they will be going from having a light on them..to tubs where there is a lid on at all times and no light gets in.So in general..do burms and balls need light?will they be ok to be in tubs?thank you.

Are you not using tubs that are clear?

no they will be darker tubs

I personally like to provide a nice fluorescent light for all of my burms and large snakes. Do they need them to survive? Perhaps not, but I have noticed that my burms are far more inquisitive, active (but still spending long periods contently coiled), and seemingly content in cages that have a nice light cycle. These same cages are heated by a pro product radiant heat panel. Our large burms are in Habitat Systems cages that measure 12' x 4'x 3'; rockword side walls, two sided viewing windows, the works. Of course, I know plenty of people who keep their burms in cages with no lighting and they do just fine; I suppose it could come down to a quality of life issue.

I would have to agree with Rob on this one, my snake also get 12 hours of light every day. In my opinion it would benifit the snake to have a good day/night cycle (12 hrs no and 12 hours off).

I would have to agree with Mr. carmichael and Corbin. However, I do have a blacklight bulb that I use at night and during the day the temperature is properly controlled. I dont use any lighting during the day other from my window and it get's perfectly lit in the cage from just that.

Hope this helps.
