Oak leaves-question for Mark W

slaytonp Jul 13, 2003 02:45 PM

You said you use oak leaves for the egg and tad water for a brownish water from the tannins. Is it the tannins that are important here, and if so, do you know of a substitute for oak leaves or a source for them? (No oaks grow anywhere in this part of the country.) Would something like Instant Amazon, Blackwater extract or Black Water Expert work?

Yeah, I'd say blackwater extract would be about the same thing. One thing about leaves is I have in some of my containers 3-6 tads in a small area and they can get hide from each other. They don't seem canniblistic either, like I have read auratus can be and they seem to graze on the leaves some.Good luck..............Mark W.
