We use them for lineatus and fimbriatus, and honestly, wouldnt go back. Makes keeping the humidity high more of a challenge, and makes watering more difficult as well as you lose all the surface area of a solid sided cage - However, they do wonderfully. You'll probably have to start cup feeding if you plan on doing this with lineatus. Unless the cage is gigantic, they will tear their noses up diving for bugs on the screen.

Thanks! What kind do you use? I was thinking about the repterariums the 260 gal for each of the pairs of the Fimbriatus and Lineatus, And smaller ones for the Sikore all with the liners or i might just build a plexiglas bottom. I am going to keep my Phantasticus and Ebenaui in the glass and set up a misting system for all of the tanks screen or glass. What do you think?

Thanks

Mike,

I am usually wholeheartedly opposed to reptariums as caging, however, they may just work with Uroplatus... They are soft on the face, dark screened for privacy etc. Try it and let us know how it works! I've got mine in aluminum screened cages, which is really pretty soft unless they are nose-diving on it.. and they do... Here are a few pics - copy & paste.

i agree with leah, the larger species seem to do well in screen cages. i built an extension for my henkeli out of a 30 or 40 gal tank, and the majority of the enclosure is now screened. its difficult to keep humidity up, as leah said, but i keep a waterfall in the enclosure time to time and im sure to spray them as often as possible. never had to combat nose rub as the screening i used is vinyl, but i would think that if it was metal screening i would be more worried as these guys pick of crickets with gusto, no matter where they're crawling around.

i wouldnt recommend housing phantasticus or ebenaui in screened enclosures though...theyre just too tiny and would probably dessicate too fast.

I use screen cages for pietschmanni. Work great!!!!
