3mo Veiled sleeping upside down and not curled up... normal?!!

dcmander Jun 07, 2005 01:13 AM

Hey guys...Dexter is doing great and has had absoultely no problems at all! He's eating and growing great and everything! He has never turned dark (except for when I put him on a dark couch, then his dark lines and patterns come in) so I'm sure he hasn't been stressed out at all.

Anyway he always sleeps clinging on to a vertical or horizontal schefflera branch. Well tonight I went in to see him (at about 1am...his lights turn off at 8pm and its totally black) and for the first time ever he was sleeping with his head pointed to the ground...and then the freaky part...he was all stretched out! including his tali! His tail was wrapped around a branch but only around once and it wasn't curled!

He has always curled his tail when he sleeps and I thought all chameleons did that everytime they sleep!

Is this anything to worry about? I got him down because I was scared and put him back at the top of the cage and I'm going back down to see if he is sleeping normal now.

Is this anything to worry about or what do you guys think?

Thanks a bunch!! I've had no problems thus far (knock on wood) so i want to make sure I catch it early if I ever have a problem!!

Ok i just went down and checked and he is clung onto a schefflera branch vertically with his head up and his tail is curled. He isn't asleep yet (eyes are open...weren't looking around though which is kind of odd) but i think it will be ok.

Is that normal for chams to sleep like that or what do you guys think ???

Thanks!

Usually chams will sleep in their favorite "sleeping area" once they have been housed in the same environment for a long time. I always find mine in the same spot every night...but it is not unusual to find them sleeping in different positions, hanging vertically/horizontally, sometimes tail fully curled sometimes only a little around a branch. I found my male Nosey be once sleeping on the misting hose and another night awkwardly hanging onto a branch with one hand and the plant stem with another...but it didn't look comfortable at all! I don't think you have anything to worry about!
