Crested Gecko newborns, good idea?

breen7 May 17, 2003 03:56 AM

I have the oportunity to buy a newborn baby crested gecko. I was wondering if this is a bad idea. As long as I see the gecko eat, and see that it's healthy, should that be enough? Is there anything special I should do to take care of such a young gecko? Things like:
-how much food and how often?
-is the 20 gallon tank that I have fine for such a young gecko?

Newborns are delicate and should not be handled much until they are about 4-5 months of age. Moving them around to clean the cage is ok if you are careful. They like to jump from your hand and may injure themselves when they come into contact with the ground. I feed them the same as my adults. They have baby food every day with crickets 2-3 times a week. I have never had any problems with my hatchlings. They have all grown up to be healthy adults.
Good luck with your new Crested.
