Burm Feeding vs. Boa Feeding

bps516 Jun 07, 2005 09:00 AM

I am looking at getting another snake and am debating between a burm or a common Boa. I am trying to find out what the differences in the feeding portions are. Does anyone have / or know about both ? I have to think about the total food bill here, the three tigers I have take quite a bit of meat already so I want to try to reduce my expenses as much as I can.

OK truthfully I don't have three tigers, though my wife DID try to feed me out to one when she worked at a zoo!

Feeding a Burm is going to cost you alot more than feeding a Boa!

Well the burm would get to rabbits faster than the boa but the boa would get there in a few years anyway.
I dont know what everyone else is paying but i pay 5 bucks a rabbit from somone local. See if you can find somthing like that. I dont see there being a huge difference in price...just depends on what your paying for food i guess

Holy crap! $5 for a rabbit, I pay $2-3 dollars for anything from 3-6 lbs. Anyway, it costs a lot more to feed a burm then to feed a boa. Because boas eat less often due to a bit of a slower metabolism, and boas stay much smaller then burms.

$5.00 per rabbit, $2-3.00 per rabbit, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I pay $12-$18.00 per rabbit, when I can't trade rats for them. Now most the time I do trade, but some times they don't have enough too and I have to buy them.

As far as boa vs burm, I'm sorry but I am biased and must say burm, If you can.

Have a good day.

Why would a boa eat less often? My burms eat every 2-3 weeks and i see no reason why a boa would not. And as far as size...they are very capable of getting large. I have seen 12ft boa's...thats bigger than my male burm.

A 12 ft boa is pretty rare (and we all know this), most of the time you will see males at 6-7 ft and females at 7-8 ft. As for feeding, I feed my burms every 2 weeks. When I had a boa I only fed it once a month and she was fat from that feeding schedule. Others may do things different, but thats what I did/do and my animals were/are 100% healthy.

I think it would be good for it to take awhile to get to the feeding out rabbits, I am not at that point yet (still to cute an furry). Outside of that I wondered about the matabolism, that makes complete sense it is slower in a boa. Thanks for all the help!

Most boas never really get that big and need to be fed rabbits (but there are those monsters that will grow to 10ft ), but you can always feed them rabbits if thats what is available to you (just don't over feed). In most cases an adult boa can be fed jumbo/collassal rats its entire life.
