i have a cage i want to put naaza in it opens from the top and on the side, i like the side part.
the top lid has a 1/8 of an inch opening on both sides, im wondering what the chances of and 16 inch corn snake slipping out?

Your snake is pretty much exactly the same size as hope. So yes he can get out! unless it is very high up....and there are no branches or anything.

i didnt know an adult corn could squeeze through an opening that size..... a pencil wont even fit in there.

StonedReptiles Jun 07, 2005 08:57 PM

Yeah, i think you should look at a ruler and than look at an adult corn snake and reconsider that statement.

It's not an adult corn.Look at a worm then look at your ruler....Paul

raisnok Jun 08, 2005 04:40 AM

i understand what you are saying, the reason i asked was because it is a young snake, but he is as big around as a tube of lip stick..........but i was also asking because i was thinking about putting slats of wood to cover the openings.

phiber_optikx Jun 08, 2005 02:59 PM

Nazza must be a very fat snake....Hope is nowhere near THAT thick..... and she eats 2x a week!

"An adult corn could fit through that opening...Paul" so don't bother getting an attitude when your wrong. It's still questionable but when was the last time you saw an 1/8" tube of lipstick? or a worm the size of lipstick? See you're wrong all around. Don't bother answering when you are gonna be that far off. Raisnok you may as well not leave an opening but I think you will be totally fine. I'd do it.

In 20 years Ive never lost a snake.I will agree we both have different opinions.lol.Nothing personal...Paul

StonedReptiles Jun 07, 2005 08:44 PM

If it is literally an 1/8" then there is no way it's gonna get out of that. However, if it's 1/4" that changes everything. I say use your better judgement and decide for yourself. Without being there and seeing, it's hard to say either way.

He says that his snake is 16" long so then his snake should be almost exactly the same size as hope my snow. The snake can get through anything it can fit its nose through. and hope could pretty much fit her entire body through 1/8"

I knew he didnt have an adult corn but I didnt know what size it was.Just keep watching this forum. With all the juvie snakes going to new owners this year a week wont go by without someone crying they lost a snake.Ive never had a juvie not try to escape. My 04 rats squeeze into the small gap between the screen and tank and actually have room to leave poop up there.lol..Paul

raisnok Jun 07, 2005 09:30 PM

its 1/8 of an inch on each side, the lid does not move. ill take photos of the top and post them.

AlteredMind99 Jun 08, 2005 10:05 AM

Snakes are ridiculously good at escaping, they can fit through spaces you would never believe they were capable of fitting through. I would definatley seal up any holes, and seal them very securly. Even then i would keep a close eye on your snake when she is in her new home

My daughter lost her hatchling corn snake last year...I wasn't aware of how well they can get out of tanks. Unfortunately it was never found (my inclination is that it went down the duct work on the floor... but we tore apart her room and we spring cleaned the whole house and turned up nothing) Her snake got out out of her 10 gal aquarium with reptile screen lid. It didn't have any "gaps" but we forgot to put the clamps back on one night and that was all it took!

I wouldn't take a chance if there are NOTICABLE gaps in a lid. These guys will amaze you!
