OT - Been diggin in my backyard

cable2001 Jun 07, 2005 10:26 AM

Here are some pictures of the progress I've made so far on my new pond. It took me two weekends of hard labor to get this far!

Before digging:

End of day 1:

First layer dug:

Finished digging:

8 month old chessie puppy Logan trying to figure out what is going on:

Liner in place and filling:

Pond nearly full:

Liner trimmed and landscaping begun:

Raw materials:

Phase I complete:

Picture from the southwest corner:

This is how the waterfall started:

This is how it looks now with the limestone in place:

I think I'm going to turn it slightly to the right to use one stone as the spillstone instead of splitting it between two like I'm doing now:

Funny, I have been doing the exact same thing, only on a smaller scale. I have dug a 7 X 7 pond, and only went down 24" My gosh, what a lot of dirt comes from that...what are you doing with all your dirt? I luckily had somewhere to put mine, but now I wish I had created a nice burm on one edge...I'm going to put a small waterfall...nothing as large as yours.

It is coming along nicely...

I'll try to get some pictures of mine up soon.

All of the dirt went to creating the back berm and the waterfall.

really did a nice job! A lot of work for sure It will pay off when you sit on one of those lawn chairs and just let your mind go, as you look at the slow rippling water and hear the peaceful sound of the water trickling!

Oh CALGON take me away, hehheheheh (remember that commercial) ?

Anyway you will surely attract froggies, and many birds and all kinds of cool stuff.

Putting any Koi in? I would love to have a Koi pond, they are so neat, come right up and eat from you hand those big beauties!

ENJOY the fruits of your labor!

Nah, no koi. This pond is for my snapping turtle, Goliath. He is loving it in there so far!

And I've already been out sitting by it listening to the waterfall. I can't wait to get frogs and stuff in there, and for crickets to move in and start chirping. It will be a little bit of country paradise in the middle of the city!
