chameleon package

TBH Jun 08, 2005 06:48 AM

i have been thinking about getting a chameleon for a while, i decided on a veiled because of their price and they seem to be a good starter cham. i think i will be purchasing him from LLL reptile and i am thinking of buying their cage package for $100. would you please just tell me if it is good for the life of the cham, and any other opinions you might have, like about the supplies or price. i am not new to reptiles, in the slightest, just chameleons, 65 Gallon Reptarium Screen Cage (28x16.5x30´´) , 24´´ UV Hood, 18´´ Fluorescent UVB 5.0 bulb, Regular Clip Lamp, Heat Bulb, 6 Feet Tropical Vines, 4 quarts tropical moss, High Range Thermometer, also the chameleons are cb 3-4 inches for $40 dollars, sound good?
thanks

That does sound pretty good, but there are some things that are missing. A dripper or misting system, or any other watering technique that you use will do fine.

Other than that... the moss is useless. Personally, I'd throw it out as soon as you got it. Having a bare tank bottom is far easier to maintain than the messy moss. Also, it might give your feeders somewhere to hide and might be harmful to your chameleon if the cham ingests some.

All-in-all, it sounds like it's a pretty decent set-up but I would recommend that you upgrade to the 100 gallon reptarium because it gives more vertical climbing room.

a regular large screened chameleon cage better. The package is a good price, (I agree don't use the moss unless ya have a frog)

Anyway I like reptariums, great emergency cage, great for sunning, I have a few.

I got one for my werneri chameleons, and I have to say as well as they work, ya just cant view them as well as you can in the reg screened chameleon cages.

So I ended up getting one for them and use the reptarium for sunning, for other lizards.

I think so much of it is watching them, and the reptariums even lite up, are a bit on the darkish side.

Best wishes with your new veiled when ya get him. Let us know, OH and post pics,

ok. i researched the screen chameleon cage, that is what i thought the reptarium was. i am definitely gonna get that, that is what i had in mind. reptile haven has that large one for 80, that looks like a good price. its too bad he only deals online now though. also, thanks for the recomendation bellow, his animals do look good, but i am going to look at the ones LLL has first because i am skeptical about ups and those guy shipping them, i also like to handpick my animals; but they are beautyful and a likely possibility. thanks, i will keep you guys posted. this is still not for sure, i am either getting the chameleon, or a female blue spot timor monitor for my male.... it is looking good for the veiled though.
thanks again,

that starter package is OK. a 65 gallon reptarium will be too small for an adult male. but it will last for about 6 months, then you will need to upgrade to a 100 gallon reptarium to he will have more climbing room. they like verticle space.

also, moss is totally useless so throw it out. he could ingest some trying toget a cricket and become impacted.

i have 3 100 gallon reptariums and they are perfect for adult veilds. in fact i'm keeping a 4 month old and a 6 month old in two of them and they are perfect. i strongly suggest going with the 100 gallon.
