electric fences

jpaner Jun 08, 2005 10:45 AM

Hello -
I was wondering if anyone is using an electric fence with crocs. It's about 5' up so it is more of a backup fence then anything else. I have read alot about lightning strikes to electric fences. Anyone know of any problems with this near crocs?

John

well uuhhh, that seems a bit invasive to me. I personally wouldn't use electric fencing.

Hi John,

Electric fences won't contain crocodilians. The move right through them, they get shocked and react but go forward rather than backward. They also don't seem to make a lasting association although I suppose that could be experimented with by someone.

Electric fence is a very humane way to contain animals, but not this kind of animal.

How do I know this you ask? I happened to keep other livestock years ago and the crocodilians tested the fencing.
