Taming a King?

peachstategeckos Jun 08, 2005 12:07 PM

I have a wildcaught Eastern Kingsnake. It's only about 12in long and I'm trying to tame it down so I can hold it. What's the best method? Also, how old do you guys think it it?

12 inches would be a year or a little more than that. The best way to tame it is by:

1) Let it get acquainted to its new enclosure for ATLEAST 3-4 days.

2) Feed it.

3) After 1-2 days of feeding it, Wash your hands toroughly with a scented soap or lotion then slowly touch it little by little. keep touching it little by little and eventually, you'll gain the trust of your snake.

Keep in mind:

NO SUDDEN/FAST movements.

Make sure you wash your hands with scented stuffs so it won't mistake your hand for food.

Yea, I got it out today for a couple of minutes and it's alot calmer than I thought it was. It just wrapped around my hand and sat there. It's a very cute lil snake. Someone on another forum said that it might have just hatched this spring since it's about 12in.

If that peach state is Georgia than that snake is protected by your local laws. It could cost you all your Geckos if the local law finds out. Just some friendly advice. Its a shame Georgia is so backwords with their laws. I hope you live elsewhere so you can keep him.
