another snake

this was in south central Tennessee. My guess was a garter. I'd love to know for sure.

Yep its an eastern garter snake nice young male it looks like.

Thanks - he was at the bottom of an 80 ft. vertical pit we were rappelling. We took him out of the pit. If he wants back he can climb down but he has some spots that had healed which made us think he fell in.

It's not uncommon to find rattlesnakes and copperheads in the bottom of pits... recently a caver found a 7 point buck...
