Final lighting opinions for 55g

yellowfox Jun 08, 2005 12:39 PM

Ok i'm going to get the stand for Draykos 55g tank friday and this will be his new home.

Now for lighting. I have a dual bulb flourescent fixture on top of his tank with room for a basking lamp. The basking lamps has a ceramic base so i can use any bulb.

The air temperature of the room he'll be in will be between 65 and 85 (staircase to an attick) and will get kind of toasty in the daytime and cooler at night. I can use one or both of the bulbs in the fixture.

Let me know what you guys think. All opinions are welcome even if they are expensive.

I'd try a 100watt spot bulb in the basking light first. Since your overall air temp can get pretty warm, I'd place the basking area on a far side of the tank. The UVB light strip will not add that much heat and beardies like it bright. Make sure you measure the basking temps with a good digital thermometer or temp gun.

Yeh i have a temp gun so i can get good readings.

What about having the basking light on a timer that turns off for about 2-3 hours during the hottest part of the day? say turn on at like 7am, turn off at 12, back on at 3 (eats around 5) then back off around 7-8? Just keep the fluorescent on the whole time.

Does anyone make 36" flourescents for beardies?
