Question on Humid hides and Got any pictures of your leopard geckos' home?

lillesspetz Jun 08, 2005 12:49 PM

I was wondering what type of material do you use in a humid hide? Can bed o beast thing work? I'm using that but it doesn't seem to create any humidity. Yes it's moist and it's on top of a under a tank heater and also has a light heater on top(about a foot above it and the geckos can't touch the light, it's a red blub)

Oh and can I see pictures of your geckos home. I wanna see how every does their own set up.

Or you can describe it too.

Thankers!

You can use bed-a-beast. I use paper towels for the girls that aren't laying. The ones that are i use a mix of vermiculate and perlite (trying to make the verm last longer). Here's a few pics of my leo cages before I switched to a rack.

PIC 2
PIC 3

All tanks had a red light bulb over them and a UTH on one side.

katie...just a heads up on your great informational webpage...the incubator you suggest to buy is now $39.99 and not $35 anymore

Okay, Thanks! It's been $35 for about 3 years now, I guess they've decided to change it back.

how did you get the rocks to stay up like that? glue?

Kendergirl Jun 09, 2005 09:40 AM

Yup...I used 100% clear silicone and glued things together in parts that can be easily removed. The only thing I can't take out is the back wall.

There are lots of ways to set up your leo cages. There are also many substrates that work well in humid hides. I use the cheap gladware and put coir in them. Coir is the same thing as bed a beast, but I buy a LARGE amount of it...much cheaper than the bricks! The rocks are formed from styrofoam and grout. I put instructions on a free webpage: www.freewebs.com/herptips/

Feel free to try it if you want!

thats my setup the humid hide is behind the cock i have tile as a substrate. sos the pic is bad it was the camra its realy poor ill try and get a better one.its 18" high so i wil hopefull evenutaly make a second level about 6-8 inches above ground level to crae mroe floor space i dont know if ill get around to it. and the tank looks much better in real life than it does there. not fantastic but pretty good considering its so basic

oh and in my humid hide i use paper towl. it dries out prety quick tho but greates good humidity so you jsut have to watch it dont dry out i generaly change the towel every other day and its abotu 3 or 4 paper towels int eh bottom.

Everyone has wonderful homes for their geckos.

hill4803 I love your set up soo much. Thank you soo much for putting up instructions on how to create it.

I'm hoping that someday I will be able to have an enclosure like that. Until then I'm sticking to a basic 20L tank.

Thank you everyone for showing off your work!
