Can someone help ID a South Florida treefrog?

cheshireycat Jul 13, 2003 04:23 PM

That's the link to a post I made here on frogs where it describes it and has some pictures. The pics are actually in my replies to the post, because I'm not the sharpest tool in the box right now!

Here's a pic, anyway, just incase that's all you need Thanks!

I don't know why, but what says "IMAGE" under the pic is actually the link to the post. Thanks

well it looks to me to be a Cuban tree frog. A picture from the top of it would be a better way to help ID it as well so we could see the markings of it. But from the side it looks to be a Cuban from the looks of those HUGE cute eye balls thats just saying " please feed me some juicy fat crickets", LOL

Thanks for the reply

It's definitely not a Cuban, though. I mean, the eyes are small and red, the belly is blue, the yearling is small, the toepads aren't so large, the color and skin are different than a Cuban. I'm going crazy!! And they all look so alike that I have to rule out variation.

I'm going to assume that they're a recently introduced species. All I found that night that I found the one I have a pic of are a bunch of greenhouse frogs and three adult Cuban TFs. All introduced and very widespread. I don't know what to think about this! As soon as I find out, though, I'm going to email all the Florida frog sites and have them post this baby!

Wow, you may be right because I saw this picture which looks A LOT like what I have, described as "Cuban tree froglets."

Although, I question it's authenticity. The froglets, then, don't resemble the adults, and why would the one I found be so much bigger than my froglets, if it's still summer? It couldn't have grown so much in such a short time, I think, but I did find it in the Keys where it's very warm.

I'll have to look into it, and a good thing that I have Heather with all the Cuban tads to do so
