Help with first incubating eggs...Please

crazyreptilelady Jun 08, 2005 03:34 PM

Just want to make sure I am doing everything right because I am not getting condensation on the inside of the container. I marked the eggs, wet some perlite so that it was all clumpy and there was a little standing water in the bottom on the container. Then I poked 4 very small (1/16" - 1/8" holes in the lid. This was Sunday. Last night there was still no condensation but the perlite was still moist. The eggs still look nice and round and full. I switched the lids so there were NO holes and misted a bit. This morning there was still no condensation. Is this ok? Am I doind something wrong? I have the HovaBator incubator (the simple model without the fan) and it is set so the temp is about 82F. Any other suggestions would be great. These are my first eggs ever! Thanks

Just becuase there isn't condensation doesn't mean it's a bad thing. DON'T KEEP MISTING THEM. It will only make them become too moist and soak up too much water and drown the babies. Do a half and half ratio of perlite and water next time and leave it that way until they hatch.

by 1:1 ratio perlite/water you mean cc (cm3) or weight?

he/she meant that if you use X amount of perlite then use the same amount of water to wet it. for example, you use 1 cup of perlite...add 1 cup of water. equal amounts of both.

I use the same set up as you have with incubator. Read the info on this site:

http://www.albeysreptiles.com/incubate-eggs.htm

This is how I set my eggs up and I get around a 99% hatch rate. This is by far the best explaination of how to hatch Leos that I have ever seen. Good Luck!!
