I have a copy of Iguanas for Dummies right in my precious iggy, G'Kar's room. We call it our "Bible". If it weren't for this book and it's author's (Melissa Kaplan) website, my boy would have never survived. Melissa Kaplan was the aol leader on their Iguana message board until dumb aol fired all the hosts and leaders. She is now on this board as PHMeliss and has links to her sites at the end of her posts.

It's a lot of reading but well worth the life of your Ig.

Click on "Iguanas". As far as i can tell, her book is contained in that website, though it's huge and can be a pain to navigate.

And sometimes I'm just here in my play clothes.

Hi, Sheryl & G'Kar!

The For Dummies books cover the basics...even so, they lopped off a couple hundred pages from my manuscript. Green Iguana Care website does cover a lot of the same material and more advanced/intense stuff, but a lot of folks who have used my site for years seem to like having the book on hand to refer to things when they're not online.

Hi Nicole,
Yes, I have this book. It's great, and very easy to read, with that comical twist of Melissa's! LOL Has lots of pictures and a bible full of information and "how to's". It's my reference to keeping my ig boy happy and healthy.

Cool, thanks a lot. See, I bought my brother an iguana. Well, I didnt know anything about them! I thought my brother did. Only after I researched I found that feeding my lettuce was terrible.. he had a plain ol regular light bulb no uvb - nothing.. he had the lights on like 24/7. He NEVER handeled it. I mean He had no clue. And After a few months my brother got tired of having this pet and was going to get rid of it. I said NO WAY. And I " rescued " the lil guy ( frank is his name ) and now he has everything right.. well just the other day I replaced his UVB light. :D brand new! and I feed him fresh food everyday. i bathe him, I handle him, I have his lights on a timer.. 12 hours of night 12 hours of day.. But the thing is, is that I am a first time iguana owner. See I used to be terrified of these lil thingy. Now I'm tottally not. And I think I need this Book to help me know as much more information as i Possibly can!

Sounds like you and your iggy are on the right path now. Also, make sure he is getting his calcium supplement for his bones. The book covers stuff you never even thought of!

I have Iguanas for Dummies. It is the most concise book, in my opinion, for iguana care. The author doesn't delve much into the personality of the iguana. I'm sure that all of the iguanas Ms. Kaplan raised were healthy, but they might not be happy. Another book, "Green Iguana The Ultimate Owners Manual", delves more into the personality side of igs, but the author of that book underestimates the intelligence of iguanas.
