No, argentinians aren't the smallest tegu's, they actually get kinda big. One question though, why would you want to go with the bare minimum, just big enough to the tegu to survive? I'd think you'd want to give them ample room and have a happy pet then just enough room to get by and have a miserable pet. My Sobek lives in my bedroom (~10'x10') and he still gets restless and wants more room, so I have to let him have run of the whole apartment to satisfy him. Just food for thought.

yep - guess again - argentines are the biggest. The generally accepted "minimum" size for a full-grown adult's cage seems to be 6 ft. X 2 ft. However, that is DEFINETLY a BARE minimum.

My big tegu spends the night, early morning, and evening in a 6 X 2 1/2 vision cage. During most of the day he goes out on the back porch. After he eats and suns himself a while, he runs in circles around the porch for like three hours.

Even with that much space he still claws at the doors wanting to come inside and explore.

Tegus are VERY active lizards if given the space, so if you are going to keep one in the 'minimum' cage space I really suggest an 'exercise area' that the tegu can get out and run around for at least a few hours daily.

I have just rehoused mine to a 7.5 x 3 and it still looks as though the big guy is going to need a bit more room in the future -

Mine are happiest when they're free to roam the 20x20 garage, specially when there are loose rats. However, they make a mess, so they usually stay in their 8x4x3h.
