My first GTPs! (pics)

AbsoluteApril Jun 08, 2005 06:21 PM

After waiting here at the office since 6:40am, finding out my package was not delivered because the driver didn't see the suite #, I was finally able to get my new additions redelivered and I am counting my lucky stars they did not perish in the heat! I finally got to open the box and had all of my coworkers surrounding my desk...

I don't think I've ever seen myself with such a doofy-grin!

this is the female, CBB 03 "jayapura type" GTP!

she just started to shed during shipment, she is in the process of changing color right now and there is lots of green showing. The shed isn't looking so hot so I will keep up her humidity and start doing shed boxes if I have to.

this is the male, CBB 01 "lereh type" GTP!

He has some really nice yellow on the sides and some yellow specks. I never realized the GTP's heads are so small and compact! (I've only seen a few in person before at shows/shops)

he was very calm!

What do you think?? I am *so* excited! Don't worry tho, I put them right into the quarantine tubs and covered them up so they hopefully don't have much stress.

Thanks for looking!!

Great pics! I'm sure i look that way everytime i get something new. Great looking little guys.... Hope all goes well and it looks like UPS is at it again... they always seem to screw things up for me when i'm expecting a delivery. Any who I hope I find a good woman who enjoys snakes as much as you do....

Best of luck and enjoy cloud 9....

Cheers

Now you are in for it. Get a charge account with a cage builder cause you're gonna need it. Sure it's only two now but next week it'll be just one more then the week after you'll have to find that one a mate and then you'll come acrosa a.....

Congratulations on your new snakes. They look great and it's good that you got an adult with such a calm disposition. I think some people make the mistake of getting cranky snakes and then get turned off when they get little holes punched in them. They're beautiful and I love the goofy grin. Enjoy!

I think before I get more GTPs I need to get a really good camera!

I am very happy with these two, the female is looking much better this morning and not all dried out like when she arrived. She is appearing green with white markings I expect
the white markings will either also turn green or maybe turn blue if I'm lucky. I see a hint of a blue line down the back but I didn't want to bother her too much looking in the tub. The breeder said he would send me some photos of her parents, so maybe I can get an idea how she will turn out.

I am glad the male was calm, I hope he stays that way and it wasn't just a fluke from the stress of shipping. Prior owner said the male is usually ok but the little female can be nippy. I'm not *too* worried tho.. I've taken plently of bites from 5' boas:

I believe the shock of getting bit is always worse than the bite itself. This one looks bad but it really wasn't and healed in about 5 days.

thanks for the nice comments! Once the female sheds I'll try to get some better pics of her.

that bite is from a BOA (common colombian boa) that was about 5.5' you weren't the only one that thought it was a bite from the new male, I should have tried to be more clear.

Anyways..
I always try to grab the camera when I get bit (it doesn't happen as often as that makes it sound lol!) my boyfriend thinks I am crazy. Here is the boa bite after I washed it off, you can see the outline of the mouth really well

This was a bite from an adult corn snake, she thought my finger was a rat pink

The worst one was my 7.5' albino boa... I was putting her back in her cage after a cleaning and she started to sneak around the side.. I stupidly put my hand up to block her escape and I moved really fast and got the full on bite/coil on my arm, it was a bloody mess, I only got pics after I cleaned up, it's faint but you can see the outline of her mouth, she had my entire hand except my pinky in her mouth! lol

Here she is looking rather satisfied with herself right after bitting me, she's such a brat!

ok ok I am rambling, I am just so excited about the GTPs

take it easy,
April

April,

Nice blow by blow bite pics! I too thought that the original bite pic was from your new GTP. I thought to myself"Wow...shes taking this QUITE well for just having gotten the snake. Glad to hear that I was totally wrong. That Albino BCI bite looked like it hurt! I got hammered by my female BCI about four years ago(9 ft and head as wide as a box of kleenex) She struck and didnt let go, and wrapped. Left same lovely imprint you have. Kind like a cheap tatoo!!

Take care and ejoy your GTP's

haha
cheap temporary tattoo I like that!
I just like the looks I get from people that come into my office, typing away with gashes in my fingers. I wonder what they think?

take it easy buddy!

Nice bite gallery. We should post those pictures in every pet show in the country so that people think twice before they buy snakes. If a litle bite scares em off they shouldnt own any snakes.

GTP bites arent really that bad though they bleed a lot. Their teeth seem to be surgically sharp and they inflict comparatively little trauma. My worst bite was from an adult female blood python. I was alwasy told if one really gets you it would leave a profound impression. I've been nipped dozens of times but no real chomps. It felt like getting hit by a 2 x 4 with lots of nails in it. My hand was swollen and sore for a week or so. I still love her but I think she and I have had to re-establish our boundaries.

Now I'm gonna go play with a baby Biak and see if my theory is true.

Nice pix

Steve
