Found an awesome gecko today....definitely going to try and get him!

Hey guys. I was at my local shop today getting some mealies and crix for my pair, and I was talking to the guy I know there. He's a buddy of mine, and was the one who sold me my Blizzard male a few weeks ago. That gecko was from his personal gecko breeder program, but he's downsizing. Today, he showed me another of his males that he is parting with. It's a 2 year old normal pattern, but he's huge. He's easily 11", atleast as long as my forearm. He's heavy as anything, and has awesome color and shape. Original fat tail, nice bulky build, clean look, all around awesome to me. He's the biggest gecko I've ever seen in person. The guy told me that the gecko carries the "German Giant" genes, but he's not a pure giant. This gecko is still huge, just not as fat as the giants on Tremper's page. He's asking 70, and I told him that if he'll hold onto him for a week for me, I'd buy him as soon as I get paid. Looks like I might end up with two breeding pairs now. The blizzard he sold me already got my female pregnant, and was not a letdown in any way. If this male is as good as the blizzard, then I will definitely get him a mate or two, or just hold him and breed him with the offspring from my original pair in a year or so. We'll see, but he's one of the best I've ever seen, and I'm going to do all I can to bring him home.

I've never heard of "german giant" line in geckos. The only time I've heard that phrase used is in reguards to bearded dragons. Maybe he's confused?

At any rate, he sounds like a big boy!

Yeah, I was just doing a little reading, and I found the same thing. The German Giant tag seems to go only with Beardeds. I wonder if he meant tremper giants or something. All I know is this gecko is pretty freakin big, and if he's got giant genetics, and I breed him with my 2nd generation geckos that are het for blizzard, then the 3rd gens will be het for giant and blizzard, which might get a few bucks.

If he is a tremper giant and you breed him with the first pairs offspring next year you could actually wind up with giants that are het for blizzard. The giant gene is codominant, which menas no hets, and the gene can turn up in the fist generation. And if he's not then you have a really big boy who will probably turn out some good looking babies anyway. Be sure to get us a pic when you get him!

Just brought him home an hour ago. I put my blizzard male and normal female pair into a 55 long, and put him into the 20 long that they were in. Eventually I am going to get him a girl or two, and I am going to put a few more females in with my blizzard boy. I'll tell you though, this guy is huge, he's easily twice the size of my blizzard, and he's very heavy. I'll try and get some pictures, but my camera isn't the best.

I took a few pictures of him, and my other geckos, and posted them online. My camera isn't the best, but you can get an idea of how big he is when I put him next to a 1/24 NASCAR diecast. Check it out: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1360820
