snake eating snakes

svt-sinister Jun 08, 2005 08:28 PM

I have a couple of questions about kingsnakes eating other snakes.
1: Is it bad or is it good for captive kings to eat other snakes? If so, why? Arent they nutritious for them?

2: Will it make the snake more aggressive?

Thanks

P.S. I found a black racer in my patio and i fed it to my eastern king. Now im not so sure if i did a smart thing here and i would hate for anything to happen to my king.

I don't think it will make your snake more aggressive, but if the wild caught snake has any parasites, your snake may get them. Some snake people find feeding snakes to other snakes is kind of unethical. Your snake will probably be ok. Derek

How will i know if he gets parasites? Is there anykind of spray i can buy?

I was talking about internal parasites. Chances are, your snake is fine, but you could take a fecal sample to a vet to check it. I would call first. If you want to do this. It doesn't hurt to have it checked just in case. At least you'll know. Snakes can have internal parasites without eating other reptiles. I would wait for your snake to digest a meal or two. I am no expert on the subject, but I think it is better to be safe than sorry. Derek

If you are concerned about it in a week or so bring a fecal sample to your vet for a check then maybe repeat it one more time in 2 weeks. Thats a nice looking Eastern. Where did you get him ?
