HELP, i think my veiled is sick!

m1ke386 Jun 08, 2005 08:29 PM

My chameleon is about a month and a half old. Is in a 20 gallon high tank, with climbing, and basking branches. A heat lamp, and a UVA/UVB light. The temps are 90-100 for basking in the day, and then at night the temps go down to 70-75. Every morning when i wake up he has this white stuff around his nose. it looks like dry skin. And by the middle of the day it's gone. I don't know what it is. He's eating fine though. Any advice. Thanks. I just purchased him on Sunday, and the move was stressfull. Maybe that's it.

I think i red this in another forum, but i think you might be putting to much calcium on his feedings to much. I dont personaly own one but prably will soon, so dont quote me lol.

I don't think its too much calcium. This is normal, and the white stuff is salt that gets extracted through the chameleons nose. You should be LIGHTLY dusting with calcium everyday, and vitamins once a week to two weeks.

Don't worry about it. If it really bothers you you can lightly spray with warm water and it will go away..but as you have observed..it goes away on its own.

Nothing to worry about, perfectly normal as far as I know.

that's just the salt they naturally eliminate throught their nostrils. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks you guys for all your help. I never knew that they would elimate extra salt that way. Thansk for the info. I'll be moving him to a nice screen cage very shortly.
