Crocodilian Possession License/Permit in Alabama

ucsda Jun 09, 2005 01:29 AM

Do you have a license in order to own an alligator in Alabama? I saw it wasn't on the list of any reptile in AL that requires a permit (such as venomous, threatened turtles, and exotics.) I'm not good with finding that stuff out on websites. It'd be a great help for any kind of answer, thanks for looking.

I think you do since they are native to Alabama. I am pretty sure they are protected there and aren't allowed to be kept. I may be wrong. My books on the subject are all packed away.

YES, it is required in the state. I live in Alabama and have had permits for gators for the past few years. They must be renewed on an annual basis. My permits have been issued as "educational" permits since I use my animals in alot of classroom environments, however it is my understanding that it is very hard to acquire the permits these days. Contact The fish and Game department in Montgomery to find out how to go about applying for a permit. On a similar note my animals were recently stolen from my home while I was away on vacation, so if anyone out there is offered alligators from Alabama and they suspect the origins may be questionable please email me at alienskullmusic@hotmail.com I can easily id my animals if you need to know if the ones in question are stolen. Thanks
