The Ball market is only goiing to get better! The combos have just only begun.....Bannana crosses...super spot nose...super Phantom...and it's early in the season.

The fun has just begun. If you think it is to late to invest in balls...you will be kicking yourself 5 years from now!

We have just uncovered the TIP OF THE ICEBERG.............And this hunk of ice is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I first started keeping Ball Pythons back in the early early 90's everyone wondered if I was losing my mind........why keep balls they asked........cause they ROCK! And as time would show.......everyone began realize the true potential of these animals..........

I remember when the only proven morphs were Pied's, Pastels & Albinos..............Now look at them...........the HOTTEST pet animal on the planet!!!

To everyone who has been working their tails off........keep up the GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!

TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WHO HAVE CONSIDERED GETTING INTO A BALL PROJECT OR 2...........or 20.........lol............

DONT HESITATE...........THERE IS A L O T MORE TO COME!!!!!!!!!!!

I am new to balls. I have two normal females and I want to start a project within the next two years. I know it will be a long process, but I also know it will be rewarding! I love pieds just like everyone else and would like to start a pied project, but I think every other newbie wants to start a pied project and the market will be way down by the time I start hatching any out. My second choice is clowns! I visit other forums and have seen threads like "Top Ten Favorite/Most Wanted/Popular Morphs" and clowns is usually at the top, along with caramel glow, pied and killer bees. I would love to jump right into spiders, spinners and killer bees, but all in due time. I want to start an affordable project working with a morph or two, and then move up to frustrating morphs that I no doubt will whiff on every year! I think my only problem will be selling anything I hatch out because I will want to keep them all! If this plan works out, my girlfriend will probably keep asking why I holdback every clutch I get. Any input/advice from you guys (Ralph Davis, N.E.R.D. etc...) that have already made a name for yourself?

jim_perron Jun 09, 2005 12:21 PM

here is some humble advise.

#1 - Go for it the market has plenty to bare.

#2 - Do it because you love to and the money will be there eventually

#3 - pick at least one project for the pure love of the morph. If you love the Pieds then get into it. Pieds are simple recessive and the market will hang in there twice as long as the Dom/Co Dom stuff. 1 year ago spiders were 15K. Simple recessive stuff retains it's value much longer....but requires a bit more patience.

#4 - Don't put all your eggs in one basket.....one morph...diversify a little

#5 - Have fun.....If these morphs drop to $5 each I'll still be freakin when a Pied pops out of an egg. I have to admit though...the rodent breeding part SUCKS!!!

I recently bought my partner out of the business. He did all the rodent breeding. What a reality check for me. I did it three years ago, but I didn't have 80 balls 3 years ago.

Well I have my son and his buddy employed and we have a schedule set up........still a pain though.

Oh well....it's all worth it once you see those eggies...He He He

See ya Jay.....

I don't know, I have as much fun with the rats as I do with the snakes.

But I have a small rat set up, only around 120-140 a month. If I was breeding more I guess it would be worse.

Have a good day

rhacbreeder Jun 09, 2005 05:53 PM

Yeah even if the market drops, I'll be happy when straight normals hatch out because I would know it started life because of me, and I might be able to sell it to a kid who's mom finally let him get his first snake!! Breeding rodents isn't something I thought about until now... And I could have mentioned many others besides Ralph and NERD but I didn't want to make a list, just a little clue that I didn't want newbie advice because I can give myself newbie advice. Thanks for the info and good answer! -Joe

I think if you really like pieds and are low on cash, get yourself a male 100% het, breed him to a normal female, and breed back to all of the female poss hets in the clutch after they have grown... If you like the morph, who cares if they aren't worth a TON when you produce them?? I always tell myself that I'd own every morph I like if they were 50bux/each and I wouldn't worry about breeding them.. It's not about the money to me, but obviously you need the money to get the cool snakes... Just a thought... And I also believe the market isn't going anywhere but UP...

I just got into this whole breeding scheme a lil' over a yr. ago...I attempted to get in earlier on it and at the time, couldn't justify spending the cheddar on ball morphs...Well, I finally did and they are worth every penny!! My take is, if it's weird and unusual buy the dang thing!! If it's proven, buy the dang thing!! You can't go wrong with any of the morphs out there!! And for the peeps who think some morphs are "over" produced, you will always have your COMBOS!! Spend $$, make $$, have cool snakes to look at, make new morphs and reproduce the ones already proved out...Regardless, these are nothing but FUN!!
