any tips on COOLING DOWN a tank?

clarinet45 Jun 09, 2005 10:37 AM

Recently the Pittsburgh area has been getting in the 100s and althought i turn off the basking light(just leaving Flourscn.) during the really hot hours, i still can't get the cool side lower than 95*! Feng does not seem to mind though, so maybe i'm just stressing. Sh edoes have several different hidey places, but she's so lazy! she rather gape than move. I'm getting a Humitidy gage just so i don't stress about that! My bf has been saving up for an AC unit, so this may just be a temporary prob anyway. well, i'm bored. Good forbid i was 5 minutes late with her salad this morning, so she attacked the Aloe plant! the poor thing. Oh well, more pics after her next shed.

Cooling the interior temperature of your home or the room the bearded dragon is in, will help cool the tank. Making sure the tank is not in direct sunlight will work as well. An AC unit certainly will help. I wouldn't worry much about humidity unless it's realy humid in your area. Through dragons are from an arid region, they can tolerate humidity levels of around 50-60% without any concern to their health. Really high levels of humidity could cause respiratory infections but only if it's a long period of high humidity (over a month I think, though I am not 100% positive). Switching to a lower watt basking light can help as well.

Thanx! I recently got a really good deal on bulbs, so now i have a 150w for winter, a 100w, and now i'm using a 75w. Oh, i thought the humiditdy shouldn't go above 25%?
