Racks are pretty straight forward to build. If you don't mind the weight of melamine they can be done quite cheaply. When you get into plastics or metal the cost savings are not so straight forward so plan wisely if $$ are a concern.

Here is one I build for about $40. 1/2" plywood for the sides, cheap melamine shelving for the shelves. Price is without tubs or heat. Note that this one holds fourteen 12 qt. boxes or seven 28 qt. boxes. BTW, in this picture it was only holding supplies and mealworms - no snakes.

Here's a rack I threw together one evening from a scrap piece of birch laminated plywood. One of the shelves is melamine, everthing else is plywood. It holds 5 boxes at 32"x17"x13".

Here's another rack I built that holds 12 boxes of a similar size as the rack above. This one I built from hollow-core doors sealed with contact paper and some scrap melamine for the sides and back/front supports.

This next picture shows my favorite rack, the one I just got from Vision. Actually I now have two, four-level racks from Vision, all holding the Iris CB-80 rack. My favorite by far, but also one I could not build myself. You can also see part of my hollow-core door rack and some melamine racks I built for the same box.

Lastly, here's a picture of another rack I built from cheap melmaine shelving. I used rope light for heat and Reflectix insulation for the back. It's the rack way in the back.

I was housing a friend's collection at the time

How is your rack working after the reconstruction?
