Breeding Leos & which type

OC-Balls Jun 09, 2005 05:01 PM

I plan to start with 2 females and 1 male.
Can I keep them all together all year, and just let nature take its course?
Or should I keep them separate, and introduce the females during breeding season?

Of course these will all go through quarentine, and will be of age and weight before I put them together.

Also, are Tangerines a good starter Leo?

Thanks,
Ken

Tangs are a very good starter and most experience breeders have them too. Keep the geckos seperate (you can keep the females together)and introduce them to the male for about a week for them to breed. If housed with a male all year long it usually really stresses the females..

I thought there might be a stress issue.
Thanks!
Are the Females fairly socialable with each other? Do they fight for food or shelter?
Thanks again,
Ken

you need your humid hide plenty big enough for both femails. 2 humids would be better if you can so they can be appart. then 2 hides on teh warm and 2 on the cool side for the femails so they dotn have to fight or choose inapropriate temps over sharing a hide.

food im not sure about sos

A lot depends on the particular female, and the amount of space they have. Some females are crabby loners, and will never do well with a roommate. Frequently, one will become dominate, and the other may not get enough food. Feeding in a seperate container can help that problem. It's possible to keep them together, but you have to keep an eye on things!

They really do thrive when left on their own.

Leos should be kept separate unles it is breeding time.....

Any leo is a good starter leo..... It just depends on what you like and can afford....

I would not go looking to buy 500 dollar leos if you have never kept leos before.....

All leos have the same care requirements mo matter what color phase or morph they are....
