Collections feeding on just f/t...

SnakeSmith Jun 09, 2005 07:34 PM

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to know if anyone else is having any luck raising their collection on f/t? I have had very good luck with this. Not the biggest collection, but it's growing! I have about a dozen animals, and every one is feeding on f/t.
Thanks,
Glenn

My collection was on F/T exclusively up until a couple years ago. Once I hit over 150 animals and with some of my higher end animals only wanting live I had to give in and start feeding live for part of the collection. Whatever will eat f/t gets it and whoever refuses gets live. Now with over 300 animals in the collection it's just not feasable to have everyone on f/t at one time. Hatchlings all get started on live hopper mice and then I try and switch them over to f/t small rats.

Regards,
Corey

I had all of mine on FT but I have 3 yr olds that are only 800g since if they are only getting FT then they only eat once a month. If they only take ft every once in a while but will eat live every week I give live. I would rather have a healthy sized snake than a scrawny one that is only eating the ft cause it is starving. I do still try to switch them over but it isn't easy and I won't let them go hungry, I have learned they will easily out last me when it comes to letting them go hungry.

12 years feeding frozen thawed and no problems. In fact I have close to 100 snakes and all eat frozen thawed...including some of my recent hatchlings. Frozen rodents can't run away

Not a HUGE amount of animals as BP's aren't really my favorite snakes to work with. I have about 45 BP's. If I could, I'd go live. Its WAYYYYY easier. No question. I just don't any way to breed rats.

And babies ALWAYS start on live. Live is just easier and usually leads to a more successful BP breeder. No question about that.
