Healthy Weight and Length

monocledcobra Jun 09, 2005 08:26 PM

My BD (male) is currently at about 16.5 inches long, and about 420 grams. He'll be a year old on July 12. He eats well, and is very active. He's got a gut on him too. I just wanted to check and see if you guys thought that he is a healthy length and weight. He didn't grow very fast, but everytime I took him to the vet, he came back with a perfectly clean bill of health (last visit was 3 days ago).

thanks

Sounds pretty good, the length could be better, but considering the length he weighs a lot. Part of the reason dragons seem "smaller" now is because of the weak genetics in the US dragons caused by such a limited gene pool with no exportation. Some dragons are now 14" or so as adults!!! If people work to only breed the biggest beardeds, then, *maybe* we could see a return to the bigger, healthier dragons, that are so uncommon these days. But your little guy seems to be of a healthy weight, even if he is a *bit* on the short side.

average length and weight for most dragons is 18-21 inches and 400-600 grams

he's only a year old. He'll still probably go through another growth spurt up until about 18 months.

mine is almost two years old and has just finished another spurt

he sounds like he's fine though
