Steve.

What do super ball sell for and what has your average size clutch been from a female super ball?

Thanks Tony Hurt

ROUSSIS REPTILES Jun 10, 2005 07:46 AM

This is the first year an F2 was produced from a Superball, we are keeping him. Contact me if you are interested in one of the original breeders. The clutch size was 10, consisting of 4 slugs and 6 fertile eggs, out of the six this one hatched. I suspect clutch size and hatch rate will increase with age.

speedingbandit Jun 10, 2005 03:32 AM

Is this from breeding 2 super pastels?????

rcr Jun 10, 2005 01:06 PM

LMAO....

JaredHorenstein Jun 10, 2005 07:48 AM

I just hope people dont think they are 100% Ball Pythons...........

Any why make a hybrid of such an amazing snake? In my personal opinion hybridizing angolans seems unfair to them.....they are so special just being angolans.....

Neat looking.....but not my cup of tea.

Congrats on them anyway.

JaredHorenstein Jun 10, 2005 07:55 AM

Regardles...........Stop making hybrids.......someone will get burned sooner or later..........

All it will take is a weird ball hybrid to be sold as a pure new ball morph one day and then the "fit will hit the shan"

just dont want to see that happen.

Jared

Some people like hybrids, some don't. I do.

But you can't tell people to stop breeding hybrids. It's not your place to tell others what to do, and you have no right to tell someone what they can or can't breed.

Not trying to be rude. The simple fact is Hybirds are here, more crosses are made every year, and thay are not going to go away.

Anyway that is a nice snake, I only wish I had the money to get one.

Have a good day!

RandyRemington Jun 10, 2005 10:12 PM

The problem is that the hybrids will have an effect on everyone in a few years when they can't be seperated from 100% balls.

Maybe now is the time to get a breeding registry started to certify pure balls for future breeders who might care. If it's not yet too late to assume you have pure ball pythons it soon will be. When that day comes anyone who wants pure ball pythons could look for ones with all ancestors registered back when they could still be separated.

playball Jun 10, 2005 10:19 PM

Totaly agree Randy, problem with these mutts is they will soon be in the wrong hands and be sold as pure regius but then again the creators don't think of that and quite frankly, most probably don't care...sad if you ask me...

I just don't get it, with the cost and work that goes into a hybrid I realy do not think any would end up being sold as just balls, or ball morphs.

Look at the bateater, it has been on the market(kind of) for years, does anyone have one that does not KNOW it is a cross? NO!! They cost too much.

All this talk about how a hybrid will get in the mix and be sold as a ball, could it happen? yes, anything COULD happen. Will it happen? Not any time soon, and I'm not sure it will at all.

It is sooooooo much more work to breed hybrids, than ANY other snake. I don't think anyone would go through the work, just to sell it as a new morph.

have a good day.

RandyRemington Jun 12, 2005 07:16 AM

So you expect this F2 to be hard to breed back to a pure ball? I could think after the initial cross it would get easier each watered down generation.

Maybe the python crosses are enough distant that fertility and/or hormones will be a problem. I'm going by the likes of Corn X Emory Rat where there are now lots of corn lines that are suspect for being emory influenced.

RuHigh Jun 12, 2005 04:13 PM

Good point.

Yes they do get more fertile with each generation, But with balls having so few eggs, and with the low fertility, from the start, I realy don't think they COULD flood the market, so to say.

Then,
When they are finaly being breed a lot(If that were to ever happen), You would still have to have one end up with a low life for it to be passed of as anything but a hybrid, and by then if they are being bread that much(so much as to let them end up with a low life), most everyone would know what one would look like, and could tell them apart.

Another thing, I can think of at least two breeders of python hybrids, that microchip every hybrid they produce. If I had the cach to get the kit I would chip every snake I have, but I do think ALL hybrids should be chiped.

Now I do think some kind of breeding registry would be good for ALL snakes. Not only would it help keep the lines true, I think it would ease the collecting of wild animals, as a snake with out pappers would be almost worthless. Look at how much a mix breed dog cost vs a purebred.

WOW,
Sorry did not mean to run on like that,
Have a good day

RuHigh Jun 12, 2005 04:52 PM

"If I had the cach to get the kit"

Sorry I meant cash.

Have a good day

Roussis Reptiles Jun 10, 2005 12:14 PM

You are right, more specifically is an F2 offspring from a Marble Borneo x Ball cross.

Thanks : )

Angolans are gorgeous animals. I personally don't agree with your opinion Jared but respect everyones views on non-hybrid breeding. I think of it this way:

In the wild this does happen with different species. It happens more often than thought previously. This is why I don't see it being a problem. Initially two species that are similar like the Angolan and the Ball were one in the same and split in their evolution. Sometimes, one species can split into two through behavioural isolation. Also, another way reproductive isolation occurs is when fragments of DNA accidentally jump from one chromosome to another in an individual (chromosomal translocation). This makes me think of the morphs that we are dealing with every year. I may be wrong on this though.

From what I have read the mix of these hybrids will eventually cancel each other out with old stronger traits of the origional animal.

These are some other hybrid breedings that have succeeded:

- American Bison bulls (American "Buffalo" have been crossed with domestic cattle to produce Beefalo and Cattalo
- GOATS X SHEEP
- Bactrian camel X Dromedaries
- HORSES X DONKEYS
- Wolves X Dogs

There are so many more but I couldn't leave out the Liger! OK, this one my not have been such a good idea! LoL

THIS IS MY OPINION AND PLEASE TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT I AM NOT SCHOOLED IN THIS TOPIC BUT HAVE READ A LITTLE BIT ON THIS AND AM MEARLY POSTING MY OPINION! I think its a great topic up for discussion.

Yea Ligers rock!!!

I saw one on TV and had to look them up. I hope to get to see one in person some time.

I could never have one but they are awesome!

Have a good day

jeff favelle Jun 10, 2005 12:18 PM

They are bred for their skills and magic.

dbrasher Jun 11, 2005 08:46 AM

And fix yourself a dang quesadilla Napolean LOL

jeff favelle Jun 11, 2005 03:23 PM

Your just jealous because I've been chattin' online with babes all day.

Herpquest Jun 10, 2005 10:54 AM

There's something sadly wrong when 'mongrels' are costing more than 'thoroughbreds'!

nita Jun 10, 2005 03:16 PM

They should be given a name that reflects that is it a hybrid. With a name of Super Ball anyone who doesnt already know that it is a hybrid will assume it is a ball through and through, nothing in the name suggests otherwise.

Ouch, I see these eventually making it around into ball collections as "unique" normals

toshamc Jun 10, 2005 04:26 PM

With their current price tag and the fact that most of the people producing these animals are holding them back - it's very doubtful that either the Angolan Ball or the Super ball will make it into too many collections any time soon. Eventually they will but they are very distinctive and would hardly pass as anything close to unique normals.

Personally I love the Angolan Ball - I think it's an awesome combination of two wonderful snakes. The Super Ball looks great too, but I can't get past that obvious blood head. You could be right about renaming it, but who would want a blood ball (ick) in their collection!

All this talk about hybrids being bad is really insulting to my hotel wrecking buddy little Stevie....after all....he's a hybrid. Haven't you seen his little beady eyes?LOL

Hey little Stevie, did they let you back in the Adams Mark?LMAO

animalshack Jun 10, 2005 08:21 PM

Congrats Steve.....too bad it didnt turn out like that wacky DERMA BALL. You could have been a millionair like that great guy Justin Savkov. Maybe next year.

Just a joke for those who might have thought I was for real.

Anyway, congrats Steve. Such a good feeling when you work on something for years and actually produce. It makes al the hard work worth while.....

VoiceOfTruth Jun 11, 2005 01:16 AM

I'm sure there are already some out there being sold as 'unusual ball pythons'. With the premium prices being paid for anything outside of the norm, I would be surprised that someone isn't already cashing in with hybrids sold as 100% Python regius.

dbrasher Jun 11, 2005 08:58 AM

Steve is one of the most ethical guys in the biz . I wouldnt be concerned about him selling tang for orange juice .
I like the super ball and appreciate all the hard work and time it took to produce it .

RandyRemington Jun 11, 2005 01:01 PM

But what about his customer's customer's customer in a few years with males?

RuHigh Jun 12, 2005 04:54 PM

So just how many do you realy think are out there?

Have a good day.
