Combating Jungles

MarkAus May 17, 2003 06:47 AM

I have got a lazy male that shows a lack of interest in breeding. He was quite fat when i got him, only 8 weeks ago and putting him on a diet still leaves him a bit fat.I have been recommeded to introduce another male with him for 5 minutes( apparently they dont bite each other straight away, only wrestle), then take the other male out. What do you guys reckon?I have only got 4 weeks left till introduction so i wont be able to trim him down in time.Bit hesistant in letting 2 males go at each other but i really only have one male that would be up to to the job, the other male i have is a tad small. If i do i will be grabbing the other male out with welding gloves, i heard they can be very aggressive at this time.LOL.

cheers
Mark

In my experince a few minutes is pretty safe. Hope it works with the lazy
male, it took me 2 years to get one of my males lean enough to want to breed.

The larger male does not always "win combat" and the loser can be turned of breeding.
Instead of a set amount of time I would watch and seperate while they are in the middle of things.

Here is a picture of 2 coastals combating.

Hi Mardy. Thanks for the advice and what a damn cool picture!!I was wondering, how do you take one male out because they look pretty entwined in each other.Does one just come out?Or do you have to physically untwine them carefully?

I just grab one of them and they come right apart.

Thanks for all the tips everybody!

Mardy, when you dont let either win, i assume that the desired effect is met?Do both males leave thinking they won?I know when i use to get into rumbles and no one won, i left with an unsatisfied feeling...LOL...probably better than losing

That is my best guess, plus I then placed them with a female for a week.

Trying to get one of my males to breed, and he did this year.
Any day the eggs are due. IJ's

My three males may just be passive jungles, but there has never really been a problem.
