Triangular shape?

Herpguy24 Jun 10, 2005 06:39 AM

I have noticed that one of my turtles is getting more triangle like. The shel when it's looking at you, it's shell looks just like a triangle. Also I have noticed that they are more docile than before. And they can't catch the rosies. I help them with the feeding, but I was getting worried. Thanks, bye

What else do you feed them? Do you have a UVB light or take them out for sunlight? Please describe your setup.

I have UVB lighting, undertank heating, and a filter. I have a place for them to get out of the water. Which reminds me, is there something that I can put in for a hide and a place for them to get off land? I have there diet set up as follows: Animal matter 50% Plant matter 25% and Commercial food 25%. Thanks, bye.

How old are your turtles? Unless they are young that is too much protein which is probably leading to the pyramiding of the shell. I would decrease the protein and increase the veggie intake. Also, do they get calcium supplements?

What size tank are they in, how many gallons of water do they have, and how many turtles are in the tank?

How old is your UVB light? How close can your turtles get to the light?

If the light is older than 6months, it needs to be replaced. Also, the turtles need to be able to get within 6-10inches of the UVB light, out of the water, as UVB does not penetrate water very well.

Make sure your turtles are in a large enough tank for their size with enough water and a good cleaning regement. Increase calcium supplements, or add them if you dont use them at all. Decrease protein, increase veggies and check the UVB source.

Unfortunately you cannot erase pyramiding but you can stop its progression.

Eerything is right. I think it's just not enough veggy intake. When it is looking at me he looks like a triangle. The UVB is good. What kind of fruits can I give them? Thanks, bye.

Mine useto love apples. He got tired of them though.

You can feed bannanas, but they are extremely messy.

I tried canalope. My turtle sort of liked it. I tried pears from a can. He didn't like them.

Whbat I want to try is yellow peppers and romain lettuce. Although my turtle has NEVER ate greens. (Takes one bite and runs off for apples)

Pretty much any thing. No iceberg lettuce, or oranges though.

It is not advisable to feed bananas to your turtle (especially if it potentially has MBD). Too much consumption of banana inhibits the turtle from absorbing calcium (which is essential for proper growth and development).

Mine always liked raw carrots. Cut them about twice the diameter of a toothpick, they go crazy for that, cuz its so easy to bite.

Thanks. I'm so happy because yesterday was there first basking together since I've had them. When someone walks in, two of them go to the water, but the other one seems like he is in a trans or something. I think I need to take one to a vet, because I have a cuttlebone in there for him to gnaw on for calium. As soon as I get my money I'm going to the petstore to see if they hae a calcium supplement. He only has one white spot, and it has gotten smaller, but it's still there.Bye.

For a hiding space, I have an 8 inch clay flower pot split in half. I just sit in in the tank on it's side. Try to wash it off really well and let it soak in the sink over night to get all the loose clay particles off so it doesn't make the tank cloudy. "Turbo seems to like it. I feed him carrots, strawberry tops, mustard greens, and a few reptomin sticks every other day. Seems to be doing well. hope this helps.

I don't quite understand what you mean. When I was thinking about a hide, I meant something like a hollow rok or something that they can get into. Like a beaver house, they have a thing of wood, and inside is a place with air and stuff. I didn't know if it wuld be a good idea. I don't have a pond or anything. I think I saw something like that at the petstore, but I wasnted to make sure before I went and bought $50 worth and not be good for them.Thanks,bye.
