Good news, horrible news

sledge Jun 10, 2005 11:42 AM

my second hatchling has come yesterday and i put him with the first little guy. i have a third egg still pending. anyways, i checked on them this morning and they were fine, i put a little water dish with a uvb light and 60w heat light on paper towels with a small rock/shelter. just a few minutes ago i noticed my first hatchling had been laying in one place for a while so i was going to give it a little drop of water when i realized he was dead. was wondering if i was doing something wrong or is this just an unforseeable event. i have been trying to hydrate them once or twice a day with a drop or two of water, is this ok? he was on his third day and seemed fine otherwise. i also thought i might have taken him out of the incubator to quickly, but i waited almost a full day.

crappy learning experiences.

Its really a sad thing when you lose one that has just hatched, You wonder WHY he had to go through it all, ???

Anyway I'm sure it happens Sledge, unfortunitely some are weaker than others.

Keep on, your doing a wonderful job, I can tell by all your posts, how caring and INTO this you are. We all have our loses, one way or the other.

I don't know if your taking readings on the temps in their tank, But I usually use 75 - 100 watt bulb in a small tank and keep temps atleast 100 - 105

Use a temp gun it you have one
