My Beardie won't eat veggies/greens....any suggestions?

autotunz Jun 10, 2005 02:53 PM

My female BD (approx. 9 months old) will only eat crickets. Once in a while she'll eat a piece of corn or carrot, but has no interest in other veggies and won't touch lettuce or other greens. Suggestions or tips? Thanks!!

I float my BD's greens in water in a shallow terra cotta dish (only way I've found that they don't dry out & wither in an hour w/ the heat) And I sprinkle dandelion flower petals & rose petals on top for color. Apollo seems to really like his flowers!

I've also noticed that he loves his calcium powder & use that on top of his pellets so he'll nibble on those. So you could always try adding some of that on top of the veggies too.

I don't use any pesticides/herbicides or fungecides on my yard or flowers, so I know nothing will harm him. He's good to go in dandelion greens until winter LOL! (of course it probably drives my neighbor who gets one of those lawn care services crazy as the seeds blow into his yard! gogo 3 year old son LOL) The rabbits really love our clover too. Actually, if I got rid of all our "weeds" I don't think I'd have a yard any more ROFL! Hey, but it's green and drought tolerant!

I've heard of the dandelion greens but not giving the flowers...actually picked some dandelion green yesterday but didn't give it...started to worry everyone might be talking about a different plant called dandelion than what I thought of...too bad my roses don't have blooms yet...

Hi,

It is my experience that different animals have different preferences. They also go through cycles/phases regarding what they eat, how much they eat etc. Lastly, if you feed your dragon every day I think they can get spoiled in some sense. If you are really intent on the animal regularly consuming veggies you may try withholding insects for a few days. They are perfectly capable of going without.

Normally I offer our animals both insects and veggies every day and let them decide what they want to eat and how much.

Good luck,

Ian

Was going through same thing, found that she is just spoiled and has to be hand feed. Seems since I started feeding lobster roaches she won't eat anything thats not at the end of the thongs. So you might want to try that.

I'll keep trying...I didn't think they could become so spoiled!! It's worse than kids!
