Mossy gecko ... prehensile tail versus leaf tail

MejaNica Jun 10, 2005 03:55 PM

Other than the obvious (different species, different tails) could anyone tell me the differences between the 2 mossy geckos? Diet/housing. Can they be kept in small breeding groups or do they have to be housed individually? Which one is easier for a beginner? Are either of them handleable (on a par w/ a crested?) I would appreciate any information you could provide. My daughter recently got her first crested, but I've seen some pics of the mossys and they look really interesting with their color/texture/patterns.

Thanks!

Mossy Prehensile Tail aka Rhacodactylus Chahoua is probably the most handleable of all Rhacs and most gecko species for that matter. A lot will argue that a male chahoua is the best pet gecko you can own. They are a beautiful species, eat a variety or bugs(crickets, roaches etc) fruits and can even use the gargoyle gecko diet. An enclosure of 25 gallons or so is sufficient for a single adult, they like temps of 70-75 degrees, some offer a basking spot of 80-85. I keep mine is pairs but have heard small groups work as well. Good luck in your choice
Nate
