outdoor enclosure questions

thomas davis Jun 10, 2005 10:05 PM

hi all my name is thomas davis im a snake guy hows first love was a jacksons well 30 years later im getting somemore(finally!) very soon
im in e.tx(houston) and have a large 8X4X8ft. outdoor screened enclosure it was for an iguana that i no longer have anyway its very well planted in shade 75Úy good breeze area is this ok for a 2.3 group of subadult jacksons 5to6inch range? temps well its texas so there lies the problem, in shade and breeze temps average 85/90 on bad days 100 anyway drops at nite are usally 75/80 is this ok for jacksons? ive read they like it cool.im getting 2.3 subadults
would it be better to set them up inside? i know i will bring them in sometimes winter, hotsummer, etc, but generally which really is best,outdoor/indoor/? also how about day outside and bring them in evenings?,
also i was/am planning on feeding seperately in tubs and will house seperately when inside just was thinking i could really use that enclosure for the group for gettin the benefit of the sun periods of time and is it bad for 2 males being in such a large area?
anyway thanks for any advise
thomas davis heres a pic of what im used to hatching/feeding/lovin/caring for

i would use caution. if you do keep them outside keep them well hydrated and in the shade. you'll need a very nice misting system that goes off about every other hour or so during the day to help keep them hydrated in such high heat.
other than that it shouldn't be too bad just put tons off plants in the tank.

to help cool things down i've known people to set up house fans to move the hot air around a bit

hi there. those temps seem to high fo my taste. there basking site should be 85 and ambient 77. i tried with my jackson to bring him out when temps where 85 and i could see he was stressed. blanched color and gaping mouth. he is much happier with the indoor temps of 70-75. good luck matt
