sexing and genetics question

Jbuggs500 Jun 10, 2005 11:14 PM

What is the easiest way to identify the sex of a ball python I dont know how to probe? Also, what would my results be from breeding a 100% het albino to a 100% het albino if the clutch is 6 eggs? One more thing anyone know any south florida shows miami or south? Thank you

I'm finding that babies aren't too hard to pop. Especially if they are fat and well hydrated (like right when they come out of the egg). Be careful not to bend the spine or push too hard. I just use one thumb to pull the vent scale gently forward and use the other starting a good ways back and rolling toward the vent. On the males you see red tubes pop out and on females smaller white tapering and hooked horn like structures.

Each of the eggs from het X het has an independent 25% chance of being homozygous. With a 6 egg clutch your chance of having at least one homozygous is 1 - .75^6 = 82.2%. The 75% is the chance each has of not being homozygous. Razing .75 to the number of eggs gives you the cumulative odds of all the eggs in the clutch failing to be homozygous. Subtracting that from 1 gives you the odds of everything else (one or more homozygous).

Thank you.. Also, I was wondering I use to keep my snakes on my back porch due to I live in south florida so the temperatures are right.. But now im starting to deal with more exspencive animals and decided to keep them inside. Now my house stays freezing due to it being so hot outside its set at 72 degrees 24-7. Right now I just have a few small snakes so I keep them seperate in 10 gallons and I use a 60watt ceramic light bulb. Is this sufficient to keep the tanks warm enough in my house? I have a question about wild caught babies.. I can get wild caught babies for $9.00 a piece or less depending on quantity. Is it worth the time of getting them to feed at the cheap price, or am I better of getting CH or CB feeders for $ 30-60 a piece.. Im just collecting females now til I get a small herim. Then get a couple nice Het Males. Any insight would be great.. Also, anyone know of any South Florida reptile shows?
