This guy looks like a juvinile Eastern - it is hard to tell but I think I see some Easterb box markings coming in.
Do you keep him outside? Natural sunlight will make his color better.

yeh he is outside but he hides under a laog all day, any idea why?

Box turtles usually hide all day except for the morning time, and around dusk - when it is cooler outside.

Was this animal kept in small quarters with a male for more than a few days or weeks? If so, then it was the constant attention of a male turtle that did that to the marginal scutes.

i resqued her from my brother who got it from a friend, about a year ago. i dont know what her past is, but there are no males in the pen.
