What is the smallest boa constrictor ssp?

snaker Jun 11, 2005 08:31 AM

My appologies if this has been asked a million times but I usually hang out on the blood python page. What are some of the smaller of the BC subspecies? I have had columbians and loved them very much but their size just got to be to problematic for me and I am no longer going to deal with big snakes (7ft plus)

Are their any BCs that top out in the 6ft range? I have heard Hog Islands don't get as big and I have liked the ones I've seen. Are their any other SSPs that are worth a good look?

Crawl cay, Caulker cay and Dwarf or Tarahumara Mexico Boas are three of the smallest you will find.

In addition to those animals already mentioned I'd add the rosy, rubber, and sand boa species.

I've heard from a couple different sources that Tarahumara boas are the smallest boa constrictor. (Sand boas, rosy's ect. are smaller boas, but not boa constrictors.) Check out www.riobravoreptiles.com for good info. My favorite smaller BCI so far are hog island boas, I have a pair.

Oops, my bad. I didn't pay attention to the constrictor part. Just thought of small boas but anyway sand boas I've had always killed by constriction.

Honduran dwarf boas max at about 5 ft, and some have gorgeous orange bellies. I have a pair and love them
