How often do you think female Boa constrictors breed in the wild? I don't know if anyone has a real answer for this question but it's something I've been wondering about for years and would like to hear your thoughts/opinions.
I would think the amount of food available to them would have a lot to do with breeding. But I've seen some REALLY thin imports that were gravid so I'm not even sure about that. What do you think?

One of the many questions, that none of us have the answer too; " even though some may think they have all the answers. " In my experiances in South America and what I have witnessed in the wild and in captivity, I will give you my own personal " assumption. " Boas seem to breed more in the wild than in captivity and seem to do it more readily, because they have something that alot of captives do not; " they were brought to sexual maturity, through time and not from overeating. " A four foot boa in the wild could easily be 10yrs old. A four foot boa in captivity, is usually a year or less. I watched a 4ft wild Boa drop 27 babies one time and she went on to do just fine and be healthy. Sure, we are talking about the wild, were all of the atmosphere and overall climate is the way it is supposed to be and that is also a huge contributing factor, BUT " to me " the slow growth to sexual maturity is the key. Maybe one day, we will all put our differences aside and contribute money to a pot, so we can send some real Herpetologist down there for an extended stay, to do some real beneficial research, to help answer alot of questions. Then again, if we knew all the answers, it may not be as fun and challenging..........Johnson Herp
