shelf liner question...

lele Jun 11, 2005 01:24 PM

I was looking at shelf liner yesterday for Darwin's new tank but was unsure what to get. Obviously, I do not want one that is adhesive, but the ones w/o were cushy (nice for grip) and porous (bad for poop, food, feeders = bacteria). So, I am wondering what everyone else uses? I know I can just not peel off the back of the adhesive type, but won't he slip around on it alot?

thanks!!

Duck brand shelf liner is what I use. Cushy, nonporous, easy to clean and disinfect. You can get it at Walmart.

Hi Christy

I think that is what I was looking at in Wal-Mart. I found the company website - can you tell me which you use? The cushy ones will clean up and not soak in - they looked spongy? Do you just spot spray as needed then take out and wash regularly? Bear with me here, the beardie setup is new to me

For my tank, I used some stuff from Home Depot that is used to line toolboxes. It's a textured black mat that isn't porous. Worth checking out- cheap and gets the job done well.

I will look into that, too - thanks! Might be interesting to see all the different things people improvise with!

I use the Smooth Top™ Easy Liners
During the week, I just wipe up with paper towel/water. Once a week I disinfect with with vinegar (in spray bottle), followed by peroxide (also in spray bottle). It's a natural disinfectant. While I'm cleaning, I let the draqgons either soak in the tub or I put them in the outside enclosure.
I've also put the liners in my driveway and cleaned them with diluted bleach water and scrub brush, then hosed them off and let them dry in the sun.

thanks, I saw that exact pattern so I know I am looking at the right stuff! I like your idea of vinegar and peroxide. I generally use Nolvasan, but maybe I will just use that for the weekly cleaning and use your idea for the daily cleanups, as I am all for natural cleaners.

thank you!
