Looks like a female Eastern.
No shell rot, Looks like it just had a tough time in life. She was probably nibbled on by a few larger animals but looks ok to me. Actually, I like her. (but then I like all boxies!)

I'm confused!

How do you figure an Eastern Box? I've seen other pictures of similar turtles labeled Eastern Box also.

My Eastern Box turtle looks much more like an ornate box.

Can I see a pic of your Eastern? I can assure you the pic I replied to in this thread is an Eastern.

golfdiva Jun 19, 2005 07:10 PM

No, you can't! Sorry, I don't mean to be questioning the id, I'm just trying to clear up my own confusion. (I will try to get a pic of my eastern, but my camera isn't very good.)

I don't stake any claim to being able to id turtles. I believe you, I just don't see it!

small one TO THE RIGHT in the pictures looks like a gulf coast.

is this the bigger of the two which appears on the left? how many toes are there in the back? could be a three-toed or a gulf coast. those are the only two possibilities I see. this damage is from some trauma. it could be a three-toed with a hard life or a gulf coast...based on the enlongation of the carapace.

The one shown here does look like it could be a young-ish eastern, based on these angles. Because it appears to be young, I wouldn't be able to say for sure what gender. The shell does look as though it has been nibbled on, versus rot.
More views could help.

OK I'm gonna hafta go Common Eastern on this one, ya'll.
Three-toed distant second choice, but I don't think very likely.
how many toes in the back on this one? just for HaHa's...
